Sacramento City College is an open-access school and part of the Los Rios Community College District. It's the oldest higher education institution in Sacramento. Required courses include probation and parole, correctional services, substance abuse, administration of justice, juvenile delinquency and criminal procedures. The actual completion time can vary, since the program is offered days and evenings on a full- or part-time basis. For elective courses, the school recommends courses in gangs and corrections and correctional counseling and interviewing. The school also recommends that you complete a work-study section that consists of 18 hours of lecture and 60-75 hours of volunteer or paid work experience at a correctional facility. San Diego Miramar College

Located on 120 acres in the Miramar Mesa/Scripps Ranch area of suburban San Diego, San Diego Miramar College was founded in 1969 as a school and training facility for law enforcement and firefighting personnel. The program comprises 33 required credits related to criminal justice, as well as an additional 27 elective and general education credits. Required courses include criminal law, California criminal procedures, report writing and juvenile procedures. In addition, you're required to complete a Standards for Training and Corrections (STC)-certified corrections officer core course, which includes topics such as facility operations, defensive tactics, ethics, inmate supervision and physical training.
