2025 Top Online Community Colleges in Wyoming

Wyoming's excellent network of public community colleges provides state residents with an eight online community college options.

Online associate degree programs usually take about two years to complete, paving the way for a student to then transfer to an online university in Wyoming if they desire to continue their education.

As approved institutions, all of the colleges below, except for Gillette College, can legally offer distance learning in all NC-SARA member states (all US states except for California).

Also, residents of WICHE regional member states in the Western US can obtain discounted tuitions. WICHE is the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education.

Top Online Community Colleges in Wyoming

The Wyoming Community College Commission is a network of eight public community colleges. In addition, the University of Wyoming Online offers remote courses to provide educational opportunities beyond the Laramie campus.

1. Casper College

Located in the city of Casper, Casper College is the academic home to 3,354 undergraduates, with a student-faculty ratio of 14 to 1. More than half of the students attend part-time. Most are of traditional college age, and 20% enroll exclusively in online courses.

2. Central Wyoming College

Located in Riverton Wyoming with outreach centers in Lander, Jackson, and Dubois, Central Wyoming College has a total student enrollment is 1,923, of which 61% are white, 15% are Latino, and 8% are Native American.

Central Wyoming College is also a designated Native American Serving Non-Tribal Institution (NASNTI) that enrolls the largest native student population among Wyoming's community colleges.

A third of students are age 25 or above, and 28% are from out of state. The student-faculty ratio is 14 to 1.

CWC is committed to serving the state's historically underrepresented students, including first-generation, low-income, students of color, non-traditional students, those with marginalized orientations, undocumented students, veterans, or students with disabilities.

3. Eastern Wyoming College

Torrington. 1,421 (all undergraduate). Student-to-faculty ratio: 19 to 1. Most students are of traditional college age, and nearly half of the student population come from out of the state or internationally. Two-thirds of EWC's students enroll part-time, and only 8% exclusively take online courses.

Eastern Wyoming College has a strong commitment to its distance learning program and to providing support for online students. You can earn the following associate degrees online:

4. Gillette College

Established in 2021 in the northeast corner of the state, Gillette College is Wyoming's newest community college district, serving Campbell County, the City of Gillette and the Town of Wright.

The Gillette Community College District works in partnership with the Northern Wyoming Community College District as it builds its programs. The Gillette College Foundation provides direct financial assistance for scholarships and grants to help students reach their academic goals.

Gillette offers more than thirty academic programs and certificates both online and in-person. Several programs are online-only.

Degree programs include majors within the fields of agriculture; arts, humanities & social sciences; education; business and computers; health sciences (nursing); engineering, math & social sciences; and technical career fields.

5. Laramie County Community College

Based in Cheyenne, Laramie County Community College serves 3,770 undergraduate students and offers a student-to-faculty ratio of 14 to 1. One of four students is of nontraditional age (25 or above), 23% come from outside of Wyoming, and 20% are exclusively taking online coursework.

LCCC provides a wide range of choices in online associate degrees. You may choose from:

6. Northwest College

Located in Powell, Wyoming--at the gateway to Yellowstone National Park--Northwest College is a public community college that serves 1,423 undergraduate students, having a student-to-faculty ratio of 13 to 1. It offers associate and bachelor's degrees.

The mission of Northwest College is to be student-centered, forward-thinking, and to prepare its students for 'transfer, career, and life.' 56% of students are Wyoming residents, with 27% from out of state and 17% international. One out of five is engaged in full online coursework.

Degree programs are too numerous to list. The college offers dozens of online courses each semester from its own faculty but also makes available to students the online courses available statewide through the WyCLASS collaboration between all of the state's community colleges.

7. Sheridan College (Northern Wyoming Community College District)

Sheridan College, representing the Northwest Wyoming Community College District, enrolls 16% of its 3,596 undergraduate students exclusively in online courses. Its Student-to-faculty ratio is 17 to 1.

8. Western Wyoming Community College

Western Wyoming Community College, in Rock Springs, provides the academic home to 2,391 undergraduates, with a faculty member for every 12 students.

Enrollment is mostly white and Latino, with 78% of students in the traditional college age range and two-thirds enrolled only part-time. Nearly a third are enrolled exclusively in online courses.

Students may earn online certificates in accounting, computer and IT, cybersecurity, digital media and web design, web programming, social media, early childhood, medical information systems, supervision and leadership.

Associate degrees that the college offers fully online include the AAS in Information Systems or Business Management and the AS in Business Administration or Communication.

Is Community College Free in Wyoming?

The merit- and need-based Hathaway Scholarship program offers scholarships to Wyoming community colleges. While community college is not totally free in Wyoming, the low in-state tuition rates in tandem with the high rate of financial aid awards can bring down your cost.

How Much Does Community College Cost in Wyoming?

As an example, the 'sticker price' per year for full-time study at Western Wyoming College tuition is $3,640 for in-state students and $8,640 for nonresidents.

However, 98% of students receive financial aid that averages $5,901 for grants and scholarships, and a quarter of the students receive student loans averaging $5,125. (These funds can also help pay for room and board.)

Wyoming Community College Degree Types

Most community colleges distinguish between two types of online degree programs: (1) career and technical education programs and (2) academic Associate of Arts or Sciences transfer programs (for students who want to eventually earn a four-year degree).
