Scientific research and development services, which employed 750 of these professionals as of May 2021, offered an average wage of $112,040. </p> <p>The District of Columbia had the highest political scientist employment level, however Virginia offered the highest average wage of $126,210, according to May 2021 BLS data. Many of these professionals also worked in the District of Columbia and Washington, where they earned average wages of $126,210 and $110,240, respectively.</p>
