Additionally, the student will learn natural treatment methods for acute and chronic conditions, analyze patient cases, take part in hands-on clinical activities, and learn tools and resources useful for practice. Homeopathic doctors learn to treat common issues such as colds, flu, fever, gastric upset, earaches, and injuries with natural remedies. A Certificate of Classical Homeopathy (CHom) is earned at the end of a 4-year professional practitioner program. An individual must obtain this certificate through the Council of Homeopathic Certification (CHC) to be nationally certified.

In many states, however, it is not a requirement. Licensure and certification requirements vary significantly for practitioners by state; some states don't require either. One can train as a homeopathic doctor by enrolling in an educational institution that is accredited by ACHENA, or the Accreditation Commission of Homeopathic Education in North America.

Typically, the first two years of the program focus on classroom studies and the last two years consist of hands-on clinical experience. Once the 4-year program is complete, an individual can practice as a homeopathic doctor given that he or she passes the CHC exam and meets state licensure and certification requirements. Homeopathic practitioner programs can add on to an existing degree or stand-alone for someone who wants to practice as an independent, homeopathic provider (depending on state).

There are also 2-year programs available that focus on classroom study without hands-on clinical experience in the curriculum. These options do not prepare for practice on others but can benefit for personal use. Certificates of completion are commonly awarded for such programs.

Refresher courses in clinical skills and new techniques, treatments, and remedies are available, in addition to advanced clinical programs.</p>
