What You Need to Know

You have several options for training in Washington State if you want a career in radiographic technology and related fields. Several community colleges offer certificate and associate's degree programs in various areas such as computed tomography (CT) imaging or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Certificate programs require less than two years of study, while associate's degree programs, which include general education requirements, take two years to complete. In both types of programs, you study topics such as medical terminology, anatomy and equipment operation and get extensive hands-on training working with patients in healthcare facilities.

You can train for many types of careers through a bachelor's degree program at a 4-year college. Fields of study include radiation and imaging management along with radiation and imaging medical dosimetry. Coursework may include mammography, fetal echocardiography and ultrasound physics. Clinical training is a major portion of the program. You'll also study topics such as intercultural communications for healthcare professionals and biomedical ethics.
