Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine

The ''Genes to Society'' Doctor of Medicine (MD) curriculum at Johns Hopkins University is aimed at encouraging prospective doctors to evaluate a patient's health using a broader framework, keeping in mind cultural, social, psychological and environmental variables. The first two years of the curriculum focus on the scientific, clinical and public health foundations of medicine, where students learn about infectious diseases and the different organ systems. In this period, they also undertake in-depth learning and scholarship in areas such as history and arts of medicine, in addition to clinical and public health research.

In the third and fourth years, students take on core clerkships and interdisciplinary electives such as immunology, genomics, metabolism and cancer. Johns Hopkins also provides a combined MD-PhD degree program that takes up to eight years to complete and is ideal for individuals seeking a career in research or academic medicine. Other combined degrees include MD/MS HCM (Health Care Management), MD/MPH (Master of Public Health) and MD/MBA (Master of Business Administration).
