These programs are offered by community colleges and university medical centers. These programs generally take one or two years to complete. The other type is residency programs offered by university medical centers. These programs are designed for medical school students who wish to become radiologists. Residencies last four years. Chattanooga State Community College
Chattanooga State Community College's radiologic technology program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology. You'll learn about radiation exposure, protection from radiation and positioning of patients for radiologic exams. University of Tennessee Medical Center
The University of Tennessee Medical Center (UTMC) is a major medical center that offers several educational programs related to radiology. If you'd like to work in the radiology department as an allied health professional, UTMC offers a certificate program that trains you to work as a radiographer. The 24-month certificate program in radiography technology will provide you with an educational foundation in radiation biology and radiation safety. The School of Radiology is accredited through the JRCERT.
While enrolled, you'll study topics such as medical terminology, pathology and anatomy. You'll also acquire the professional skills necessary to work in the field, like positioning patients for accurate imaging and patient care. The program's curriculum includes classroom learning, lab demonstrations and clinical experience.

UTMC's Radiology Department offers a diagnostic radiology residency program. During your third year of the program, you may opt to train at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology. Residents are encouraged to supplement their educational training by conducting their own research.
