What You Need to Know

Many community colleges in Washington offer 2-year associate's degree programs in sonography, which is what ultrasound technology is usually called. For most programs, you'll need to have completed courses including medical terminology, anatomy, math and biology before enrolling. The courses in this program involve classroom and lab courses in many types of sonography. About half the program involves clinical practice at a healthcare facility.

You can also receive training through a 4-year bachelor's degree program at the university level. In the bachelor's degree program, you can choose a cardio/vascular track or a general/vascular track. In addition to courses and lab work, a 1-year full-time internship is required.
