Typically completed in four years, the programs require extensive research and clinical training in areas such as family medicine, pathology, and emergency medicine. Courses completed during a student's first year are usually in human structure, human disease, and clinical skills. </p><h3 id="section---HumanStructure">Human Structure</h3><p>A course in human structure is typically a lecture course that can last several months. It covers gross anatomy, histology, neuroscience, and physiology. Students receive the knowledge of healthy human physiology necessary for beginning their clinical skills training. </p><h3 id="section---HumanDisease">Human Disease</h3><p>A human disease course can also last several months. It typically covers immunology, microbiology, and pathology disciplines. The course can include lectures, labs, team-based exercises, clinical practices, and human simulations. </p><h3 id="section---ClinicalSkillsFoundation">Clinical Skills Foundation</h3><p>Clinical skills foundational courses may be included in the first year of medical school or provide ongoing training over a period of three years. Students may meet as a group to discuss the ethics, professionalism, and communication necessary for their profession. The course can also cover doctor/patient relationships, physical exams, and basic counseling skills. </p><h2 id="section---AdmittanceRequirementsForDoctorOfMedicinePrograms">Admittance Requirements for Doctor of Medicine Programs</h2><p>All medical students should complete the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). While each program varies on admission requirements, students should demonstrate a rigorous work ethic. At a minimum, students should have completed prerequisite courses, including biology, physics, organic chemistry, and English.
