What Adult Education Degrees Are There?

Two different types of degree programs are referred to as adult education. If you haven't completed your bachelor's degree, you can find degree completion programs for adults at colleges and universities around the country. They're often designed to allow you to keep working, and some programs include online instruction. You can earn degrees in general studies or industry-specific areas, such as business or engineering.

If you'd like to work in the adult education industry, master's degree programs in adult education prepare you to provide adult general education, postsecondary education, corporate education or continuing education. These are often offered with flexible scheduling, including online options. If you enroll in an online program, you receive access to Internet-based message boards, classroom interfaces and other tools.

How Do I Finish My Degree?

If you're an adult learner, degree completion programs usually transfer your previously earned credits and offer the classes you need to complete your bachelor's degree program. In some cases, you might not receive credit for all of your prior academic work, but most programs take into consideration life experience, such as work or military service. Typically, you'll have to complete a minimum number of credits through the adult degree completion program in order to graduate.

The courses you take in an adult education degree completion program depend on your school's requirements and the degree you wish to earn. For example, if you're earning a degree in organizational leadership, you'll take core courses including communications, organizational relations and organizational systems. A general studies or liberal arts degree completion program often includes courses in history, politics, literature and language.

What Does it Take to Work in Adult Education?
