Some of the core subjects you study include purchasing, management, macroeconomics, accounting, business ethics, logistics, distribution and international trade. Associate degrees in transportation management can lead to careers in distribution planning, distribution marketing, safety supervision, warehouse management and supply chain management. </p> <h3 id="section---WhatWillAGraduateProgramTeachMe">What Will a Graduate Program Teach Me?</h3> <p>The master's degree program not only studies management principles, but focuses on research and solutions to transportation issues. You study transportation modes, improvement of pedestrian and passenger safety, project management and traffic management. Transportation management subjects include accounting, finance, management skills, human resource management and public transit systems. </p> <p>Some master's degree programs are offered both online and on campus. This program can lead to a career as a mobility manager, program planner or director of transportation operations. </p> <h3 id="section---CanIBecomeCertified">Can I Become Certified?</h3> <p>The American Society of Transportation and Logistics (ASTL) offers certification for transportation and logistics professionals (<i>www.astl.org</i>). To qualify for the Certified Transportation and Logistics (CTL) designation, you must have either an undergraduate degree or three years experience in the transportation field. To earn the CTL, you must complete six exams given by the ASTL. Three exams are mandatory, while an additional three can be selected from a list. </p> <p>The North American Transportation Management Institute (NATMI) also offers certifications in the transportation field (<i>www.natmi.org</i>). The institute provides seminars that lead to their certifications. Along with completing the coursework, you are expected to have some experience in the area you're seeking certification. You can seek certification as a director or supervisor of safety or maintenance, or as a cargo specialist.</p>
