Overview of Free Medical Administrative Assistant Training

Medical administrative assistants manage the front desk operations of physicians' offices, hospitals, and other healthcare providers. Job tasks can include recording patient information, taking calls, scheduling appointments, filing insurance claims, billing, and more. Because medical administrative assistant is a specialized position, few free training resources are offered, and the ones that are available are more for certain skills or knowledge that is helpful to a medical administrative assistant, rather than training specific to the position itself. Of the resources available, most of the content comes from medical or other non-profit organizations, with other content coming from accredited universities or government organizations.

Wisc-Online is an educational non-profit supported by Fox Valley Technical College in partnership with the Wisconsin Technical College System. It offers resources on many different subjects, including general health topics and medical assisting. The school also offers a basic computer skills course which provides necessary knowledge for medical administrative assistants. The medical assistant learning objects include resources for clinical and administrative medical assistants, so while some learning objects will not be as relevant to those going down the administrative path they are available if you want to learn even more. The general health learning objects also provide some helpful study topics, such as medical terminology pronunciation and abbreviations. The learning objects require Adobe Flash Player to run, as they are often interactive exercises with video elements and quiz questions.
