Some common degree programs include art, computer graphics, animation and computer science. A gift for creativity is important. After all, you'll be asked to imagine scenes, creatures and alien worlds. A good amount of artistic talent won't hurt, either. However, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports a median salary for multimedia artists and animators (a field that includes CGI artists) of $77,700 a year as of May 2020. Multimedia artists and animators working in the software publishing industry did a little better, earning a median annual salary of $82,330 that same year. </p> <h3 id="section---WillTheFieldGrowInTheComingYears">Will the Field Grow in the Coming Years?</h3> <p>If you're thinking about launching a career as a CGI artist, it's important to know if there will be jobs when you're ready to be hired. According to the BLS, employment for multimedia artists and animators will continue to grow between 2020 and 2030. It estimates an increase in employment of 16% during that time period.</p>
